Paragliding at bir bilingThis post has the details for paragliding at Bir-Billing which is in Himachal Pradesh and its world’s second highest paragliding spot.

One of the places to visit in India for Adventure Sports in Himachal Pradesh, India.

I have tried to add the experience about the whole trip which will help to get some help to you.

Day 0 – Thursday Evening

There are no sleeper buses that goes to Himachal Pradesh only semi-sleeper.

Delhi to Chandigarh via train

You can choose to take direct cab from Delhi itself instead of Chandigarh. It would cost you the same in case you are going by AC train from Delhi to Chandigarh

Found this cute kid along with a family who was traveling in the train too

cute kid found

We reached Bir via Ertiga taxi starting from Chandigarh at night and having dinner on the way.

The way is a little dangerous to drive at night as there was very few or no street lights.

Day 1 – Friday

Bir

We decided to see the local places in Bir after having the breakfast at the hotel as in the afternoon we had to leave for Billing.

Mukutnath Shrine – 13th Century Temple

This is the Lord Shiva Temple(Baijnath temple) which is near the  river Binwa, a corrupt form of ancient Binduka, a tributary of river Beas. Below are some pics from the temple .

Its interesting to note that Dusshera is not celebrated in Baijnath this place as Ravana was responsible for having Shiva here. Ravana was taking Shiva from Kailash to lanka along with him and he has to attend the nature’s call and he gave the Shivalinga to Lord Ganesha who kept it here.

There is a park on the backside of the temple from where you can see some good views and go towards the river.

Palpung Sherabling Monastery

This was one of the another thing which can be visited in bir and comes in the list of places to visit in Bir.

Since its at a height so taking your car over there could prove to be a little challenging.

Though it was closed but we had fun with friends.

you can have some good pics here.

So after visiting the two places(temple and monastery), we came back to our hotel.(Garden View)

Some of the famous cafe we found on internet were not open on the day we went as there were some festivals going on.

Then we started for the ultimate destination i.e. Billing from where paragliding happens.

These were some videos after seeing which we were a little scared to do paragliding the next morning

We choose to stay over night in tents at billing. There is no supply of electricity over there.

We had 2 guides with us who had a room over there and they cooked for us.

Below is the room alongside the tents. Washroom was there but a temporary one in a different tent.

Day 2 – Saturday

So now comes the day which was the main purpose of the trip i.e. Paragliding.

Paragliding

Like Dehradun-mussorie, jammu-katra, kalka-shimla…. here its Bir-Billing

Bir being the base location or flat area and Billing is the hilly portion where we went by car/jeep provided by the hotel we were staying in.

Billing is the small area(not that small) place from where you jump and you land at Bir.

Here is the video for my flight from Billing to Bir

Advice :- Hold the camera at a height so you do not have sun in the background.

Package cost was 2500-3000 which included a night stay in tents , paragliding, breakfast and lunch for the next day.

500 extra I paid for the stunt i did in the air. In that they move it so fast and you make a circle in the air.

I would update the video of the stunt as well soon.

After this event we came back to Bir , had lunch and left for McLeodGanj.

Out hotel – Garden View in BIR was really nice and you can contact this person (Sada Thakur) and get a good deal

Day 3 – Sunday

Dalai Lama Temple

Bhagsu Temple

Bhagsu Waterfall

Behind the temple was a waterfall. You have to walk a lot to reach there. We gave up midway.

We got down where the water from waterfall was coming and we got some good clicks

Naddi View Point

In Mcleod ganj this is one of the nice place from where you can see Triund which is a famous trek in Himachal.

Back to Delhi

So we came back to Chandigarh as our taxi was till there.

Got an ola to Delhi from  On the way stopped at some nice photo taking restaurants.

Conclusion :- Its a must visit place in India. It gives you an experience of the life time. You might be hell scared but its worth it. When you are in a plane without any gates. You will come over your fear.
